The following paragraphs offer a brief review of the nature and scope of some typical projects. We take considerable pride in the fact that the systems implemented by our staff are in continuous use by our clients, and have become an integral part of their daily operations:

Health Care Strategic Consulting: Metricom assisted a large, East Coast 'Blue' plan develop alternative reimbursement and care delivery models. Metricom developed evaluation criteria for information models, researched health care information standards and 'CPMR' (Computerized Patient Medical Record) technology, performed site visits and evaluated clinical data management systems from multiple vendors.

Clinical Laboratory Requisitioning: A major New England regional clinical laboratory selected Metricom to develop a Windows-based end-user application for automated requisition entry and results reporting. The system is intended for general distribution to the client base, and provides a full-featured relational database Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC) technology.

Health Care Reimbursement Consulting: Metricom provided strategic consulting services to a multi-national banking conglomerates Citicorp Health Services Division's project to develop a nationwide medical claims factoring network.

Clinical Data Management: A leading vendor of clinical applications selected Metricom to develop several Windows components (controls) for its new line of medical chart software. The vendor provides advanced, knowledge-based clinical software for physician group practices, clinics, and hospitals. The product(s) supports digital voice recording as part of clinical notes, as well as speech recognition for structured note dictation. Metricom is assisting this vendor in developing Windows-based applications and components to expand the vendor's clinical product line.

Electronic Claims Network: The Metricom staff designed and developed hardware and software solutions for one of the oldest and largest physician-based electronic claims clearinghouse networks.

Electronic Claims & Eligibity System: A complete and customized electronic claims 'outreach' system was developed, implemented, and supported by Metricom for a leading regional HMO, which accounts for more nearly one half of their total claims volume.

Commercial Clinical Laboratory: Metricom designed, developed and implemented the automated test requisitioning and result reporting system, installed in over 4,000 physicians offices nationwide. The project included sophisticated graphical results reporting and custom interfaces to several analyzers.

Hospital Laboratory Outreach: A multi-hospital regional health network plan selected Metricom to implement an aggressive 'outreach' program to enhance its services to participating hospitals, clinics, and other providers.

Primary Care Administration: A large PMO contracted with Metricom to develop several deminstration system for its prestigious Boston-area hospital client. Project responsibilities included laboratory interfaces, integrated desktop, and telephone messaging, pharmceuticals, and facility adminostration.

Encounter Tracking & Patient Certification: In a joint venture with another company, Metricom developed a new client/server encounter tracking and patient certification system for use at the nation's premier health care clinic. The system includes custom interfaces to the clinic's existing registration and patient information systems.

Patient Care Clinic Administration: Metricom was selected to manage the implementation for an IPA-model HMO's first entry into direct care delivery, with the opening of satellite patient-care centers. Metricom provided software selection, project planning and administration, and implementation training of the site staff.

Health Industry Consulting Services: Metricom provided technical consulting support to assist the Boston office of an international consulting firm establish a health care industry consultancy. In addition, Metricom has consulted on project proposals related to health care reimbursement and managed care.

In addition, Metricom has worked with several non-Health Care clients for implementing creative unique business solutions. Some examples include:
  • A local Business College contracted with Metricom to assist in the evaluation and procurement of a new computer system, and then provide staff training.

  • An international consulting firm used Metricom to interview and qualify prospective candidates for its DEC VAX consultancy.

  • A regional footwear manufacturer hired Metricom to implement and manage its EDI program to support electronic orders and just-in-time inventory management.

  • A leading Boston-based mutual fund retained Metricom to develop one of the first PC-based electronic mutual funds trading systems, interfacing to its mainframe trading applications.

  • Metricom developed several custom interfaces for an international apparel company, supporting the migration to a new MRP and financial system.
