Automated Laboratory Requisitioning
and Results Reporting

WebWare Components

LRSweb is a WEB-based electronic laboratory requisitioning application that operates on standard Windows PCs from any location that has access to the Internet and the World-Wide Web (e.g., physician's offices, nursing homes, patient service center, drawing station, or hospital clinic). Through a variety of selection buttons and search functions, LRSweb enables the user to easily create and send requisitions to the servicing laboratory.

In a typical configuration, all of the information needed for 'Short Form' registrations (billed to client) can be captured on a single screen. This one screen holds the information needed to automatically register the patient in the laboratory or hospital ADT/Registration system, automatically order the tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and automatically complete any billing requirements -- all without any further user intervention.

Information for a 'Long Form' registration (which requires Insurance, Employment, and Gaurantor information) is automatically retrieved from the hospital Master Patient Index, ADT/Registration, or LIS system and sent along with the laboratory requisition information, saving substantial data entry.

An integrated Medical Policy component automatically tests the validity of diagnosis codes, ordered test codes, and other related information against a set of dynamically maintained medical necessity and similar policies - exceptions are brought to the attention of the user immediately, and Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) may be printed for the patient's signature.

Specialty tests such as Microbiology and Anatomic Pathology (including PAP tests) , automatically bring up specialized information screens to capture required additional information.

Dictionaries that match the Laboratory Information System dictionaries are provided for Diagnosis, Ordering Physician, Tests, etc. and are automatically updated through the ICSweb server on a daily basis.

Key Features

  • Automated Requisitions:
    · positive specimen ID (bar coded requisitions and label)
    · efficient process
    · provides data integrity
    · manifests for daily logs and courier pickup

  • Automated Interfaces: capture demographics, create MRNs, register both long and short form registrations, specimen accessioning, lab order, abstract diagnosis for billing, update remote dictionaries and create management reports.

  • System Security: special password encryption process restricts end user access within the host computer system;

  • Advanced Test Scheduling: through the use of a flexible scheduling feature, the user is able to schedule tests that occur in a cyclical manner in advance of the actual preparation of the requisition, thus saving time and reducing the number of errors in the testing process.

  • Medical Policy Server: allows the laboratory to define a series of medical policies that are automatically reviewed at the time of creating the requisition. Provides immediate feedback for end user regarding Medicare medical necessity, hospital, or laboratory policies.

  • Specimen Accessioning: automates the specimen receiving process, reduces workloads, enhances data integrity -- dramatically reducing call-backs and repeated procedures;

  • Management Reports: provide immediate feedback on any rejections along with a full tracking system to record user volume and types of processing.
