Health Care Sites

American Society for Testing and Materials: The originator of several laboratory-related standards, including ASTM-1238 for communicating orders and results between laboratories (also see HL/7).
Clinical Laboratory Management Association: A well-maintained site, and an excellent source of information about the business of clinical labs.
HospitalWEB: A well-organized and fairly current index of US and global hospitals that have a presence on the Web.
Medscape: A comprehensive online news source regarding health care and patient care. Lots of departments dedicated to specific interests.
National Committee for Quality Assurance: An awkward site, but the best source of information about NCQA for consumers and employers and researchers.

Government Agencies

Agency for Health Care Policy and Research: An extensive resource for a wide variety of health-care information, including clinical data, research, a government locator, and much more.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention: This well-known agency maintains a wealth of health care information, plus catalogs and links.
Department of Health and Human Services: A high-level parent site for several HHS-related sites, includes a 'finder' and search engine to help locate specific information.
Food and Drug Administration: A well-organized site for this far-reaching organization, includes consumer, industry, and regulatory information.
National Institutes for Health: The NIH is mostly a collection of individual agencies, offices, etc. Best value here is the guide to the NIH 'Institutes and Offices'.
National Library of Medicine: Information on 40 databases, including MEDLILNE, Internet Grateful Med, AIDSLINE, TOXNET, and others. One of the oldest and best-organized sites for health care research.
